Mortality

For 5 years, or near enough I have been an atheist. My parish preist was Father John Fitzsimmons. He was an internationally renowned preist with controvertial views and a wicked sense of humour. I will never forget the passion and energy in his hectoring voice as he delivered his services.

Well, yesterday Father John passed away. He had been very ill for a while but I had never expected him to die. He had a toe amputated. My Nana bought a "Get Well Soon!" card for him showing a picture of a teddy bear with a foot in a cast. He appreciated the joke, but she hadn't noticed that articular feature of the card.

Today his body was on display in our parish church, St. Ninian's, in preparation for his funeral tomorrow. I decided that I would go and see him. Except, it wasn't him. The Father John that I knew was so large and full of life. I hadn't seen a dead body before, but I had heard that the bodies looked smaller and that their skin looked waxy. Both are true. I can't really explain it but that body looked nothing like Father John. I'd always thought of him as almost giant in size (being rather small myself) but that coffin looked tiny. It was disconcerting that I couldn't hear him breathing or see his chest moving.

I've been gone for a while, and apple4B I'm so sorry that I missed your birthday.

-Claire

Traffic Light Guy

Well, today I was at the traffic lights waiting for the green man and a delicious man stood in front of me. I tried to be discreet and stare from the corner of my eye but he knew that I was looking, turned around and said "Hi!". I was mortified! I gave a very feeble "Hi" in reply and tried not to check him out as we crossed the street...

But he was wearing shorts, so I stared at his legs :-P
What a view! He is so fine!
Tall, waist length light brown hair (think Marco Hietala) & blue eyes.
-C

Claire's culinary adventures....

Well, the fact of the matter is I'm a bloody awful chef. Up until 3 days ago toast was the limit of my skills in the kitchen. Seriously, I was that bad. However I have upgraded from dreadful to very poor, lol.

It all started 3 days ago when my mother gave me a copy of "The Vegetarian Student Cookbook". When I realized that yes, mum was actually being serious I began to laugh almost hysterically. I casually flicked through my cook book to appear polite, but then I discovered something. There is an Italian section. There is an Oriental section. There is a cake section. My favourite types of food. But best of all there is a cocktail section :-D C'est super!!!!

Well, on Saturday morning I decided that this was the big moment- I was going to cook porridge. Cook porridge on the stove as opposed to the microwave. I never thought I'd see the day... So anyway, I struggled to stir my simmering porridge, prevent it from sticking to the pot and add more water. The end result? UNBELIEVABLE! My banana porridge tasted brilliant. I'm still a little shocked. So, encouraged by the success of the previous day's porridge, I made sultana and cinnamon porridge and it was great too. It was surreal. I had cooked somethnig edible. More than edible.

My ego in the kitchen had inflated. I decided that for dinner, I was making creamy cheese spaghetti. I followed my recipe to the letter and enjoyed preparing my meal. However, disaster struck. My sauce would not thicken! After 10 minutes beside the simmering pot., I had decided to eat my diner, regardless of the sauce attempt.

Yuck. the sauce was dreadful. A horrible consistency and even worse flavour. I pictured Gordon Ramsey entering the kitchen, picking up the pasta and mashing it into my face. I gave up and had crackers & cheese for tea.

This morning I tried to do fried egg & toast. The toast was okay but the eggs got torn into shreds in the frying pan. There's always dinner...

The bleeding blood test...

The doctor couldn't get my veins to pop up, so started tapping, prodding etc.
Eventually, when I was sick with anticipation, he found a vein.
He started taking blood but then pierced my vein!!!
It was unbelievably sore & blood spurted out.
I have gauze taped to my arm & have been light headed all day!

So, my friends, here is a word of advice; never give blood.
Cruel? Yeah. Do I care? After that experience, not really.

Where is Geoffrey when you need him?

Well, I have a livejournal. There is no stopping me now. All I have to do is make my page halfway decent and write some fanfics. A start is a start.

Well, I have joined LJ because I wish to become a part of the Walsibeth community.
